Alma Online Meet and Greet

On February 1, 2024, the Alma system at the library of the National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism (NKUHT) officially went live, making it the 15th library in Taiwan to use Alma and the 16th to offer cloud services. It joins over 3,000 libraries worldwide that have implemented Alma.

From the project kick-off meeting on August 22, 2023, to the system's launch on February 1, 2024, NKUHT Library successfully completed the implementation of Alma in a small academic institution, achieving the shortest implementation time among academic libraries in the country.

Alma Online Meet and Greet

The library held the "Alma Online Meet and Greet" event at the entrance from February 19 to 21,2024. The event included the "Who Am I Now?" role-playing activity and the "Log in to Alma" red envelope giveaway. Led by resource vendors and librarians, faculty and students became familiar with the convenience of using the Alma cloud information system to find library resources.

The "Who Am I Now?" activity involved 18 information need roles designed by librarians, combined with 3 scenario-based tasks for hands-on practice. This was paired with the "Log in to Alma" red envelope giveaway quiz sessions held at 10:00, 12:30, and 15:00 each day to promote how Alma can meet readers' needs for teaching, learning, and research resource searches. Through different scenario-based questions, students experienced the new library system's features and discovered its convenience.

The "Alma Online Meet and Greet" event also featured electronic resource vendors, allowing faculty and students to interact with resource instructors. Through live demonstrations and discussions, attendees gained a deeper understanding of the available resources and how to use them effectively.

Alma: Don't Be Afraid to Use It - Librarians Teach You How

Starting from May 6,2024, the library will host the "Alma: Don't Be Afraid to Use It - Librarians Teach You How" event on the first floor of the library from Monday to Friday, 13:00-13:20. During this event, librarians will interact with faculty and students to introduce the Alma system and various types of library resources.

The content for May and June will cover tips for using Alma to learn languages, including system searches, Studio Classroom and TOEIC exam resources, reading and searching foreign language magazines on Flipster (such as TIME magazine), and the read-aloud feature of academic databases.
